About Holy Spirit Primary School

Holy Spirit Primary School, Kurri Kurri gives students the opportunity to reach their full potential by providing a contemporary learning environment that targets the individual learning needs of each student.

With comprehensive and contemporary learning environments, each classroom has its own dedicated interactive white board and teachers employ creative strategies to engage students in the learning process.

The school has high expectations of its students and inspires them to achieve academic excellence in all areas of school life. Students are encouraged to extend themselves through classwork as well as through various competitions such as the Newcastle Permanent Mathematics competition, ICAS, debating and public speaking, art competition and writing and poetry competitions.

Participation, enjoyment and skill development are the cornerstones of the sport program at Holy Spirit Primary, with students given the opportunity to participate in a range of sports throughout the school year including tennis, gymnastics, Aussie Rules, netball and basketball, and compete at representative level in swimming, cross country, athletics, cricket, tennis, soccer, rugby league, rugby union and touch football.

Characterised by a strong sense of community and inclusiveness, students are encouraged to be respectful of themselves and of others and promote acceptance, tolerance and forgiveness.

Awarded the 2016 Monsignor Coolahan Award for 鈥淐ommunity鈥 in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, Holy Spirit is well recognised for its involvement in the local community and places a high level of importance on servicing others. The Mini Vinnies group actively fundraises and educates the community about poverty on a local and global scale and students regularly visit local nursing homes to talk, share their school work and entertain the residents. Students also participate in the annual Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival where they showcase their skills and talents to the wider community, as well perform at community liturgical and musical events.

The school prides itself on having a talented choir which supports local events and diocesan initiatives and all students have the opportunity to participate in an annual 鈥榮howcase鈥 to perform in song, dance and poetry.
